Ethel Velez

Board of Advisors

Ethel Velez has been involved in community development and organizing for the past 35 years. She is a director of the New York City Public Housing Residents Alliance, President of the James Weldon Johnson Housing Development Resident’s Association and the District Chair of the Manhattan North Council of Presidents. She is also a board member of the National Congress of Neighborhood Women, and an advisor to the Youth Action Program, which is an international program of Youthbuild USA. She has also served as chairperson of Block Schools, a parental control alternative educational program, and received a recognition for best practices at the 1996 Istanbul Housing Conference.  Previously, she was a member of the Jack Kemp National Housing Committee, and she worked at a brokerage house on the New York City Stock Exchange. Born in New York City and raised in East Harlem, she is a graduate of Goddard College in Vermont and is married with three children.
